1.5: The Grapes of Wrath: Organized Costumed Antagonism
Chapters 16-18 plus some Twitter Discourse
Episode Notes
I can't figure out what the heck to say about the actual book so instead I get embroiled in terrible booktwit discourse and begin my transformation into an actual supervillain. This interlude is actually kind of useful in laying out exactly the popular attitudes towards "the literary canon" I'm trying to challenge with this project, but more importantly it allows me to make a bunch of jokes about putting on a garish costume and menacing people who are still mad about their 10th grade english class.
- q: are you starting actual cross-podcast beef? are you recruiting minions? can I have a dart gun?
- a: absolutely not I forgot the names of everyone involved about a second after I finished recording
Also I talk about seasonal structure, plotty chapters vs themey chapters, and how great Lost actually is.
Contains a brief clip of music by JG Thirwell.
Content warnings for the contents of The Grapes of Wrath, including ableism and family death.
This episode was originally published on my patreon last year for $3 backers.
